Your Personal Touch
While the scholar qualities discussed in this chapter give you an idea of what scholarship programs are looking for, every person demonstrates them differently. Now it's time to take these characteristics and give them your own twist by embracing your uniqueness, highlighting your strengths, and strengthening your weaknesses.
EMBRACING YOUR UNIQUENESS
We all have qualities that make us who we are and separate us from everyone else. Some of us try to hide our uniqueness until we finally wake up one day and realize that being unique is cool!
Without your uniqueness, you could easily blend into the crowd, which is not what you want to do in a scholarship application! So let go of any stereotypes regarding the âideal scholarship candidateâ and accept that you are one of a kind. Then celebrate it! Use your uniqueness to find the activities you are good at and to create opportunities other people haven't thought of.
As you look for those opportunities, make sure you are molding them around who you really are. You'll do much better if you're excelling in things you love versus just trying to become someone you think scholarship committees want.
Learn to embrace your positive, unique qualities, and then demonstrate how they make you a great choice for a scholarship!
